19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since March of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His defensive approach and regular outbursts on court had caused observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four early opportunities in a close third set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
